Samsung expands digital camera range

NEW DELHI, JAN. 7. Samsung today expanded its product portfolio in the digital camera range by launching six new models and said it hoped to secure 16 per cent of the market by the end of this year.

"The company aims to sell 40,000 digital cameras in 2005 and grab 16 per cent of the market that will double to 2.50 lakh units by the end of this year,'' said Vivek Prakash, Vice President, Samsung India.

The company already had seven models of digital cameras in the market but in 2005 it planned to push its products aggressively.

"We are also expanding our retail presence and will launch 600 technology retail counters in 2005,'' Mr. Prakash said.

Samsung's digital appliance and media business contributes 40 per cent of the company's overall revenues in India.

"We are targeting the home PC users and I am confident of achieving our numbers,'' added Mr. Prakash. The new range, launched today, includes V700, 7.4-megapixel cameras with two-inch LCD screen and 10X zoom. Samsung sells digital cameras in the price range of Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 40,000. — PTI
