Philately expo ends

VELLORE, JAN. 7. The two-day Vellore District Philatelic Exhibition, VELPEX 2005, concluded here today with Karuna Pillai, Postmaster-General (Mail Management), Tamil Nadu circle, Chennai, distributing prizes to the winners.

Ms. Pillai gave away the first prize in the State-level South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) letter-writing contest to Muthulakshmi of the Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Kancheepuram.

The other winners: Senior group: I prize B. Geetha; junior group: I prize T.R. Sriram and T.R. Rajashri (S.S.K.V. School, Walajapet); II prize V. Harithavarshini (Ida Scudder School), V.C. Santhosh Kumar (St. Paul's Matriculation School, Sathuvachari) and N. Ezhilmaran (K.M.G. College, Gudiyatham); III prize N. Gokulram (Vedavalli Vidyalaya, Walajapet), V. Divya (Holy Cross Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Sathuvachari) and N. Bhuvaneswari (C. Abdul Hakeem College, Melvisharam).

Quiz: I prize D. Banupriya and V. Pradeepa (St. Mary's HSS); II prize J. Riaz and R. Sandya (Ganadipathi Tulsi Engineering College); III prize M. Venkatesan and D. Subhash, Government Boys HSS, Bargur).

Ms. Pillai also released a special cover on the Sepoy Mutiny memorial pillar in Vellore, which was received by Geetha Ilangovan, Municipal Chairperson. She also released a special cover on one of the beautiful sculptures found on a pillar in the Kalyana Mandapam of the Jalakanteswarar Temple here during the inaugural function of the philatelic exhibition on Thursday. C. Gnanasekharan, Vellore MLA, received the cover.
