Civic chief caught in transition throes
By Our Correspondent
KAKINADA,
JAN. 7.
For Beeraka Chandrasekhar, it had become the last meeting in his capacity as Municipal Chairperson of the port town.
While he was in the midst of the inaugural of the four-day fete of the Appajoshyula Vishnubhotla and Kandalam Foundation last night, he received a message that the municipality had been upgraded into a corporation with immediate effect.
Mr. Chandrasekhar, who was the chief guest at the function, released a book titled, `Aaru Apurupa Padya Natakalu'.
Meanwhile, the Collector, K.S. Jawahar Reddy, who took over as Special Officer of the Municipal Corporation on Friday, said he would personally supervise the sanitation works in the town. He said sanitation and drinking water were top on the list of his priorities.
Efforts would be made for mobilisation of resources, he said adding that various schemes were being planned for increasing revenue.
He said that town planning violations would be viewed seriously and encroachments would be removed. Dr. Reddy said developmental works would be taken up in consultation with people by organising ward committee meetings.
