Virbhadra Govt. comes in for criticism

By Our Staff Correspondent

SHIMLA, JAN.7. The State Committee of the Democratic Youth Federation of India has strongly criticised the Virbhadra Singh-led State Government for scrapping the 300 posts of clerks lying vacant in various government departments and accused it of blindly following in the footsteps of the erstwhile BJP-led government in finishing off government jobs.

The State Secretary of DYFI, Tikender Panwar, in a statement here today said that the claims of the Virbhadra Government that signing of the fiscal reforms MoU would lead to an increase in the number of jobs now stood exposed.

He said that the fall-out of the "fiscal reforms MoU" hammered out under the dictates of the IMF and the World Bank had started pouring in. "To receive a grant of a few crores, the Himachal Government is playing with the future of lakhs of unemployed youth and has signed this memorandum. The unemployed youth of the Sate are first told to apply with exorbitant entry fees and then the posts are cancelled. These youth have become a money-generating source for the Government," alleged the DYFI.

Meanwhile, the Students' Federation of India is launching a Statewide struggle in support of Art and Crafts students of the State from January 9. The parents of these students would also join in the protest against the alleged arrest of some student leaders who were protesting outside the State Secretariat when they were refused a meeting with the Chief Minister after repeated requests.

The SFI State Secretary, Vijendra Mehra, has strongly condemned the arrest of Art and Crafts students and alleged that the State Government is resorting to undue repression and force to oppress their legitimate and democratic demands.
