BANGALORE, JAN. 7. Irina Brar picked up her fourth title on the ladies amateur golf circuit this season with a commanding twenty-stroke lead in the South India Ladies Open tournament at the Karnataka Golf Course here on Friday. Irina, who had set a course record in Delhi recently by carding a six under for the four rounds, also set the benchmark at Bangalore with a cumulative of four-over 292. She carded one-under 71 on the final day. The Chandigarh lass, still on pain-killers for her back injury which kept her out of the game for two years, started off with a bogeys on the second and sixth hole. She however did some damage control with a birdie on the ninth. The last nine holes went like clockwork for Irina with birdies on the 14th and 18th, the last one being the most satisfying for the entire tournament. Mysore's 16- year-old Bhavana Shetty came up with a superb performance in the final round to share the day's best card with Irina. Birdies on the 4th, 5th and 6th gave Bhavana a lot of confidence and she was playing on two-under on the 17th when she dropped a stroke on the 18th. Bhavana vaulted into second place with her fine showing on the final day.
The silver division was a cakewalk for KGA's Dhanalakshmi Rice. The 14 handicapper extended her winning lead to ten strokes over Rohini Majithia.
