Bharat Ratna sought for PV

KARIMNAGAR, JAN. 7. The Zilla Parishad general body meeting on Friday unanimously passed a resolution urging the Government to confer Bharat Ratna posthumously on the former Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao.

The meeting also urged the State Government to name the Lower Manair Dam (LMD) reservoir and the SRSP flood flow canal after P.V. Narasimha Rao. It was decided to install a huge portrait of the former Prime Minister in the AP conference hall.

Tributes paid

Earlier, the ZP Chairman, K.V Rajeshwara Rao, the Collector, C. Parthasarathi, the MLAs - D. Sridhar, J. Ratnakar Rao, Sana Maruthi, Chada Venkat Reddy, Etala Rajender, Ch. Rajeshwara Rao, Kasipeta Lingaiah, and G. Mukund Reddy -- the ZPTC members and others offered floral tributes to the portrait of Rao and observed two minutes silence.

Chapter in textbooks

The ZPTC member, N. Sharada, urged the Government to introduce a chapter on Mr. Rao in textbooks. The Manthani MLA, Mr. Sridhar suggested the `meeting to move a resolution urging the Government to announce Bharat Ratna for Rao.

The vice-chairman, Sudheer Kumar, suggested that Karimnagar district be renamed Narasimha Rao district.
