CHENNAI, JAN. 7. Joshna Chinappa made history by becoming the first Indian girl to win the under-19 title in the British junior squash Open, which concluded at Sheffield in England on Thursday night. The second-seeded Chennai collegian, who was the runner-up last year, had reasons to fancy her chances this time, as she faced unseeded but gritty Tennille Swartz of South Africa in the title clash. The South African girl, on a dream run after accounting for a few seeded players en route to the final, including the top seed, seemed on course for another upset when she grabbed the first game. The Indian, known for her mood swings, however, regrouped in time. "I won it," was how she greeted her father. Bagging the next three games, Joshna won the 45-minute contest to script what certainly will be one of the best moments in her young career. Joshna won 3-9, 9-3, 9-6, 9-3 to give another boost to Indian squash. Joshna had won the under-17 title in the same tournament in 2003.
