CHENNAI, JAN. 7. Five thousand years of Indian history have been brought under one roof in the form of 100 laminated photographs by the Archaeological Survey of India and the Indian Science Monitor. The exhibition of photographs of ancient monuments and archaeological findings will be on display at the Vinyasa Art Gallery in the Music Academy complex till Sunday (11 a.m. to 7 p.m.). A collection of 15 exhibits — rare paintings, frescoes and stuccos — has been dedicated to the Narambunathaswamy Temple at Tiruppudaimarudur, near Tirunelveli. Justice S. Ratnavel Pandian, former Supreme Court Judge, had worked for the preservation of the temple, T.K.V. Rajan, Editor of the Indian Science Monitor, said. T. Satyamurthy, Superintending Archaeologist, Archaeological Survey of India, said: "the present is the past rolled up for action. The past is the present, unrolled for understanding. E. Balagurusamy, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University, spoke on the importance of archaeology and history in highlighting ancient values. The exhibition contains pictures of chess coins and chess boards excavated at Lothal in Gujarat, the ivory statue of a woman from India found at Pompeii, the Arikamedu excavations which speak of the trade India had with Rome 2000 years ago and, the `Vibini,' trademark pottery among others.
