HUBLI, JAN. 8. Dacoits raided the house of a retired superintending engineer, K.N. Kulkarni, in Shantinagar Colony on Friday and decamped with valuables estimated at Rs. 1 lakh. The police said the dacoits, who were speaking in Kannada and Hindi, gained entry into the house after breaking open a window. They reportedly cut the telephone line before attacking Mr. Kulkarni and his wife. They tied the couple, and Mr. Kulkarni was assaulted by the dacoits when he refused to hand over the keys of the almirah, the police added. The neighbours, who grew suspicious when Mr. Kulkarni raised an alarm, alerted his brother, who came to the house, the police said. Following this, the dacoits fled the scene with the valuables. K.V. Gagandeep, Commissioner of Police, and K.V. Ravikantegowda, Deputy Commissioner of Police, visited the spot.
