DHARMAPURI, JAN. 8. The preliminary post-mortem report on the body of the forest brigand Veerappan, which was made available here, says that the brigand suffered two severe bullet injuries apart from six superficial pellet injuries. According to a forensic expert, the brigand had sustained two bullet injuries, including one on his forehead and another between his left eye and left ear. The first bullet had entered the left side of his forehead and exited through the back of the skull. Patches of blood clot were seen around the wound. The second bullet injury, which was about 6 centimetres from the back of the left ear, was lodged near the teeth. Infiltration of blood was present around the injured site. According to a senior doctor, "this bullet was extricated from the wound and preserved for ballistic analysis. The brigand's left eye was sunken due to the injury." The report also revealed that Veerappan had been suffering from cataract. Other than that his body condition was excellent. He had no fat or cholesterol and his heart was normal. His liver, spleen and kidneys were intact and he died six to 18 hours prior to the post-mortem examination which started at 7.30 a.m. on October 19, 2004. The post-mortem report runs into four pages and the examination was done by a team of doctors. It included Dr. Vallinayagam of the Salem Medical College Hospital and Dr. B.T. Subramanian and Dr. B. Prabakaran of the Dharmapuri Government Hospital. The report said that opinion had been reserved pending skin tests and viscera analysis.
