ISLAMABAD, JAN. 8 . Pakistan has claimed that all the member-countries of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) except India have endorsed February 7 to 9 as the new dates for the grouping's Dhaka summit. It was originally scheduled for January 9-11 but was postponed due to the tsunami tragedy. The Pakistan Foreign Office spokesman, Masood Khan, said here that Bangladesh, the host of 13th SAARC Summit, proposed the new dates and Pakistan as SAARC Chairman initiated the consultation for a consensus. He said the Pakistan Foreign Secretary, Riaz Khokhar, had contacted his counterparts about the new dates. According to him, Sri Lanka had given its approval while Nepal and the Maldives had sent messages saying these dates were suitable for them. Bhutan said it would accept the dates approved by the other countries. A reply was awaited from India and as soon as a response came Pakistan would announce the final dates for the summit, Mr. Khan said. To a question, he said if India did not endorse the dates, Pakistan would consult other member-countries.
