VISAKHAPATNAM, JAN. 8. Structures should be planned to withstand natural hazards like tsunami, tornado and earthquakes, said the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University, Y.C. Simhadri, here on Friday. He inaugurated the Eco-Built Tech 2004-05, a national students convention being organised by the students of the Department of Civil Engineering of the A.U. College of Engineering, as part of the golden jubilee celebrations of the college. Construction material should be improved to give high strength with low weight and resistant to corrosion. The civil engineers should work in the direction of innovative construction activities. A retired professor of A.U. and a student of the first batch of the department, V. Jagannadha Rao, was felicitated on the occasion. The Head of the Department, R. Rama Rao, professors, S. Ramakrishna Rao, M.L. Narasimham, P. Ellaiah, T.N.R. Naidu and a student, Manasa, spoke. More than 50 students from different places in and out side the State attended the convention in which 38 papers were presented.
