Sundaresa Iyer permitted to attend funeral

CHENNAI,
JAN. 8
. The Madras High Court today permitted Sundaresa Iyer, manager of the Kanchi Sankara Mutt, arrested in two criminal cases, to attend the funeral of his brother tomorrow.
Justice K.P. Sivasubramaniam granted the permission after a writ petition was moved before him at his residence.
Mr. Iyer shall be permitted to go out of the central prison here with police escort from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. His brother, N. Thiagarajan, died here yesterday.
Only on Friday, Mr. Iyer filed two petitions in the Principal Sessions Court here, one seeking regular bail and the other for an interim bail to visit his ailing brother. The matter was posted to Monday for further hearing, after the City Public Prosecutor sought time to file a counter-affidavit.
