Sheila launches Pulse Polio programme

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, JAN. 8. The Delhi Chief Minister, Sheila Dikshit, today launched the next phase of the Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme by administering polio drops to several children at her residence here.

The Pulse Polio programme will be organised in the Capital on Sunday, under which children up to five years of age will be administered pulse polio drops.

Asserting that rumours about a polio virus in Delhi were baseless, Ms. Dikshit said that during a particular period last year, there were no cases reported in the Capital. She clarified that the two cases reported recently were migrants from eastern Uttar Pradesh. At the same time, Ms. Dikshit urged Delhiites, in particular those parents who have children below five years, to take the children to the nearest Polio centre and get the required polio drops.

Also present on the occasion were Delhi's Health and Social Welfare Minister, Yoganand Shastri, and office-bearers of the World Health Organisation, United Nations Children's Fund and Rotary International.
