KSEB to release dam waters into Pampa

PATHANAMTHITTA, JAN. 8. The Kerala State Electricity Board will release 2,60,000 cubic metres of water from the Kullar dam in the upstream reaches of Pampa river so as to maintain the minimum flow along the Pampa-Triveni stretch of the river during the peak days of the Makaravilakku festival at Ayyappa Temple in Sabarimala.

According to Subhash, assistant executive engineer attached to the Water Resources Department at Ranni, the flushing of filth from the Pampa-Triveni stretch of the Pampa would be carried through the release of the dam waters from January 10 to 16.

He said that it takes four to five hours for the dam waters to reach Pampa.

The release of dam waters would continue on January 19 and 21 for the post-season cleaning operation at Pampa, he added.

The revenue collection at Sabarimala during the first seven days of the ongoing festival has been recorded at Rs.7.7 crores against the previous year's figure of Rs.6.67 crores, according to Travancore Devaswom Board sources.

The `aravana' and `appam' sales have been put at Rs.2.89 crores and Rs.59.73 lakhs respectively. The `hundi' collection during the first seven days was Rs.3.25 crores, the sources said.

IMFL seized

The Pampa police have arrested a headload worker, Jaleel, of Mangode in Kollam district, for carrying 40 bottles of Indian-Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from Pampa.

Jaleel was on his way to Sannidhanam with the IMFL bottles when he was arrested, the police said. Jaleel will be produced before the Judicial First Class Magistrate's Court at Ranni, the police added.
