MANGALORE, JAN. 8. The Government is committed to meet the demands of the agriculture sector such as subsidised power supply, low interest rates on farm loans, implementing market intervention schemes and announcing support prices for horticultural crops, the Agriculture Minister, K. Srinivas Gowda, has said. Addressing a press conference here today, Mr. Gowda said the State Government has directed district central cooperatives to give loans to farmers at an interest rate of 6 per cent. It has requested the Union Finance Ministry to direct commercial banks also in this regard, he added. He said he had a round of talks with the Union Agriculture Minister, Sharad Pawar. The latter had promised to examine the proposal and bring it to the notice of the Finance Minister, P. Chidambaram, he added. Mr. Srinivas Gowda said he is concerned about pest management, particularly with regard to horticultural crops.
