SBMJC dominates

BANGALORE, JAN. 8. Host Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Jain College (SBMJC) continued its dominant run in the eQura Vie-2005 all-India invitational inter-collegiate sports meet, winning a double in badminton and then clinching the table tennis title.

The SBMJC boys' `A' and `B' teams meanwhile advanced into the last four in the table tennis section, while its hockey, cricket, basketball and tennis teams made good progress.

It was only in women's volleyball that SBMJC lost to Mount Carmel in the semifinals.

Basketball: Men: SBMJC `A' 81 (Rabuan 18) bt Presidency 37 (Pranit 11); GRD (Coimbatore) 51 (Praveen 19) bt St. Joseph's PU 33 (Punit 15); Loyola (Chennai) 62 (Kishore 11) bt Surana 19; Christ 51 (Sanath 18) bt GRD 38 (Praveen 15); SBMJC `B' 61 (Kishen 16) bt TISB 34 (Manik 13); St. Thomas (Sri Lanka) 45 bt SBMJC `B' 33.

Women: SBMJC 42 bt Christ 13; JNC 40 (Jyothi 21) bt St. Joseph's Commerce 20.

Badminton: Men (final): SBMJC `A' bt St. Joseph's 2-0. Semifinals: SBMJC `A' bt SBMJC `B' 2-0; St. Joseph's bt MATS (Raipur) 2-0. Quarterfinals: SBMJC `A' bt Seshadripuram 2-0; St. Joseph's bt St. Thomas (SL) 2-0; MATS bt Sindhi College 2-0; SBMJC `B' w/o V.V. Puram.

Women: SBMJC bt Mount Carmel 2-0. Semifinals: SBMJC w/o Stella Mary's; Mount Carmel bt Sindhi College 2-0.

Cricket: SBMJC 156 in 29.1 overs bt New College (Chennai) 154 in 29 overs; BHS 144 in 28 overs lost to Pachaiyappa's (Chennai) 145 for four in 21.5 overs (Danashekar 54).

Hockey: SBMJC 7 (Mohan 2, Anand, Karthik, Ahmed Khan, Sreejesh, S. Gerard) bt St. Thomas (SL) 0; United Mission 5 (Chengappa 2, Abhishek, Ravi Lumar, Cheeyanna) bt St. Joseph's PU 0.

Handball: APS bt V.V. Puram 19-12; Bhadravathi bt BHS 13-7.

Table tennis: Men (quarterfinals): Loyola (Chennai) bt Seshadripuram 3-0; SBMJC `B' bt St. Thomas (SL) 3-0; Surana bt Presidency 3-0; SBMJC `A' bt Sindhi 3-0.

Women (final): SBMJC bt SBRR Mahajana, Mysore 3-0.

Tennis: Men (semifinals): Mahajanas (Mysore) bt Christ 2-0; SBMJC bt Pesit 2-0.

Women (semifinals): Christ bt Mount Carmel 2-0.
