MANGALORE, JAN. 8. An undertrial, Kutti alias Sundara Shetty, who was brought to the District Wenlock Hospital with two others, escaped from the custody of the District Armed Reserve (DAR) constables escorting them. He was remanded in judicial custody in cases of assault and threatening people. He is reportedly suffering from mental illness. The undertrials were brought to the hospital by Seetharama Shetty, Bhavani Shankar and Vijayeshwaran, constables. They are reported to have told Mohammad Ali, Ananda Bhandary and Sundara Shetty to be seated while they went to get the outpatient slip for them. When they returned, they found Sundara Shetty missing. The police immediately issued a wireless alert to arrest him. Sundara Shetty is a resident of Mommarabette village, Hiriadka in Udupi district. The Mangalore South Police have registered a case based on a complaint from Vijayeshwaran.
