They lost all, but found their baby

By Shastry V Mallady

NAGERCOIL, JAN. 8. The tsunami washed away thousands of people. But a few `miracle stories' are doing the rounds nearly 15 days after the disaster.

A two-month-old child has been christened Tsunami by its parents who are thankful that the killer waves spared it.

The baby boy was feared missing after the fisherfolk family at Colachel near here ran for safety.

The parents, Stalin and Jesurani, could not find him and thought that their only child had been washed away. But to their joy, they spotted their chubby son in a relief camp the next day. In the meantime, the baby changed 15 hands as everyone was fleeing the shoreline.

"As everyone tried to escape from the tsunami, they passed on the child to someone else. We were not aware where our child was. Thank tsunami for sparing us and we are naming him tsunami," says the happy mother, who is now in a private orthopaedic hospital here.Even as the neighbours in the Simon Colony at Colachel fled to safety, no one ran without handing the baby over to the person in front as all knew "he was the only child in that area and that he was Stalin and Jesurani's boy. My child could be easily identified even during that tragic moment. He changed hands but came to us," says he happy father.

The parents have lost everything to the killer waves, says a member of the hospital staff.

"The doctors here are to be thanked for treating us free. And, thank God we found our child in a church while he was being taken to a relief camp by someone," the mother says.
