MADURAI, JAN.8. The Madurai Bench High Court Advocates Association has urged the Chief Justice of Madras High Court to depute 12 judges to the Bench, considering the number of petitions being filed from southern districts. At present, only five judges are there and take turns once in every two months. Pointing out that there were only 28 Judges in the Madras High Court against the sanctioned strength of 47, including the Madurai Bench, the association urged the President, the Chief Justice of India and the Union Law Ministry to fill the vacant posts for judges as early as possible. In a release issued on Friday, the secretary, M. Ajmal Khan, said the association resolved to request the Chief Justice, Markandey Katju, to consider the advocates practising in the Madurai Bench while recommending the names for appointment as judges.
