A well-judged decision

By Our Staff Reporter

MADURAI, JAN.8. Justice K. Govindarajan of the Madras High Court, who is due to retire on January 14, did not accept a farewell dinner, which was to have been hosted by the Registry on Friday. He requested the Chief Justice, Markandey Katju, to contribute the expenses meant for it to the tsunami victims' relief fund. The Judge communicated his decision in a letter to the Chief Justice.

Meanwhile, Justice P.D. Dinakaran handed over cheques and demand drafts for Rs.6, 00,102 to the Chief Justice, collected in the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court for tsunami victims. The amount includes Rs.2,01,000 received from auctioning a cake and a personal contribution of Rs.10,000 each by Justice P.D. Dinakaran and Justice N. Kannadasan.
