MADURAI, JAN. 8. The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court began to issue computer-generated order copies from Friday. Hitherto, the Bench had been issuing type-written copies since its inauguration on July 24, 2004. The inaugural function was officiated by Justice K. Ravirajapandian, Justice S. Ashok Kumar and Justice N. Kannadasan on Friday. Justice K. Ravirajapandian described the new initiative as yet another milestone in the institution's history. Assuring the legal fraternity that the new system would ensure that the order copies were delivered within 24 hours of pronouncing the judgement in open court, the Judge invited the advocates to make use of the opportunity. He also said the order copies would be tamper-proof, bearing five secret confidential marks and the logo of the High Court embossed in the centre of the page. Justice S. Ashok Kumar recalled the instances when several persons were prosecuted for circulating bogus bail orders of the High Court, particularly in Tirunelveli district, and hoped that the computerised orders would prevent such manipulation. "When an order copy is delayed, the litigant would naturally find fault with his counsel, hence the initiative would help both litigants and advocates," he said. Earlier, Justice K. Ravirajapandian inaugurated the system and handed over the first copy to Justice N. Kannadasan. A fixed charge of Rs.35 would be collected for each copy irrespective of the number of pages.
