HYDERABAD, JAN. 8. The Communist Party of India (Marxist) has demanded four-tier land assignment committees with representatives of prominent agricultural workers unions and political parties. In a recent letter to the committee chairman and Municipal Administration Minister, Koneru Ranga Rao, the State committee of CPI(M) hailed the constitution of the State-level panel at the instance of the Left parties but demanded that such panels be set up at district, mandal and village-levels also. It called for empowerment of gram sabhas for the purpose of land distribution. The sabhas should be held under the supervision of village-level all-party committees to select beneficiaries. The CPI(M) wanted the Government to survey all types of lands village-wise before taking up distribution. It called for a special bench of the High Court to deal with land disputes.
Enactment of law urged
The CPI State assistant secretary, K. Narayana, in a press release, urged the State Government to enact legislation for effective distribution of land. He sought representation to recognised political parties in the committees. The Dalit Bahujan Shramik Union appealed to members of the Land Committee to implement the land distribution programme for comprehensive SC and ST Lands (Protection and Development) Act.
