TIRUCHI, JAN. 8 . Officials of tsunami-hit districts have been directed to take a survey of the damage to the standing samba crop in the devastating waves. Speaking at a meeting of the officials of the eight central districts to review the work of distribution of the new ration cards here today, the Commissioner, Civil Supplies and Consumer Protection, P. Kolappan directed the officials to submit report to the Government with immediate effect. He also directed the officials to take immediate steps for establishment of alternative fair price shops in the tsunami-hit areas, where the existing shops suffered damage. The tsunami victims should be provided three litres of free kerosene. Moreover, 10 litres of kerosene should be given to them under the public distribution system. Similar facility should be extended to the affected fishermen families, he said. On the distribution of the new ration cards, Mr. Kolappan said new ration cards were being distributed to all eligible families in a phased manner. He emphasised the need for making entries in the family cards about the details of possession of either single or double LPG cylinders. He instructed the officials to cancel the supply of kerosene to the consumers who have two LPG connections. The Commissioner also reviewed the progress of the implementation of the Annapoorna Anthyothya Scheme. The Tiruchi Collector, V. Pandian, the District Revenue Officer, P. Senthilkumar, the Joint Registrar of Cooperative Societies, R. Ambikeswaran, the regional manager of the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, P. Kalaichelvan and civil supplies and cooperatives officials of Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Perambalur, Pudukottai, Sivagangai and Theni districts participated in the review meeting. Later, Mr. Kolappan inspected the centres where the new family cards were being distributed in Ammamandapam and Tiruvanaikoil areas in Srirangam taluk. The Collector and the other officials accompanied him.
