Fake notes racket busted: eight held

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, JAN. 8. In a sting operation, the city police today netted an eight-member gang dealing in counterfeit Indian currency notes.

The accused were identified as Salhudeen (38) of Neyyatinkara, Sadasivan (50) of Chavakkadu in Thrissur district, Vikraman (52) of Parassala, Radhakrishnan (38), Suresh (30), Anil (29), Aji Kumar (31), from Neyyatinkara, and Joy (58) of Peechi in Thrissur district.

The Circle Inspector, Cantonment, K E. Baiju, said the accused were arrested following a tip-off received by the City Police Commissioner. He said Baiju Paulose, probationary Sub-Inspector, had approached Salahudeen and Sadasivan posing as a client who wanted to buy fake Indian currency notes of Rs. 100 denomination. The accused were told to come to a tourist home near the Secretariat on Friday night. Sadasivan and Salahudeen were arrested when they arrived at the tourist home with a 500-note bundle of fake currency of Rs. 100 notes.

Woman arrested

The Kilimanoor police have arrested a 24-year-old woman on the charge of theft. The accused was identified as Sandhya. Circle Inspector, Bijumon, said 24 sovereigns of gold stolen from the house of one Jose was recovered on the basis of the statement given by the accused.

Chain-snatching

The Thampanoor police have arrested a Sanal Kumar (31) on the charge of snatching the gold necklace of a woman at the Central Bus Station here.
