Generator room catches fire

KOCHI, JAN. 8. Two fires were reported here today - at Menaka Junction and on the Vimalavanam Island.

The generator room of the Dhanalakshmi Bank at Menaka Junction caught fire in the evening, creating panic in the area. An electrical short-circuit is suspected to have triggered the fire. Two fire tenders from the Club Road fire station put out the flames, after the police cordoned off the area and blocked traffic. Fire personnel said that the switchboard of the room and the wires were completely destroyed in the fire. However, there was no major damage to the generator set.

The fire at Vimalavanam was reported in the morning, after someone reportedly set fire to dry branches which had been cut from the trees some time back. A similar fire had erupted there on Friday. Two fire tenders from the Club Road station and the fire float of the Cochin Port Trust were pressed into operation to put out the fire.

Guest lecturer

Applications have been invited for two vacancies of guest lecturers in Department of Chemistry at Maharaja's College, Ernakulam. Candidates with UGC qualification should appear with original certificates on January 11 before the College Principal.
