Lakshmipriya steals Anjali's thunder

HYDERABAD, JAN. 9. Despite a career-best score of 584, an improvement on her Sydney World Cup tally of 582, Anjali Bhagwat was deprived of the 50 metre rifle three position gold by DVS Lakshmipriya in the Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi memorial master shooting championships here on Sunday.

Anjali had missed the 48th National championships at Indore and only the top 10 shooters finishers in that event were eligible for laurels here.

Lakshmipriya and Kuheli Gangulee each had 575 points, but the former's tally of the 194 in the kneeling card fetched the gold.

Zorawar Singh shot a perfect 75/75 in the first half of the men's trap event, cracking 25 out of 25 in each of the three rounds. Arjuna Awardee Mansher Singh was next with 72/75.

After a long period, veteran marksman Ashok Pandit crossed the 580 points mark with an effort of 583 in the men's 25 metre centre fire event.

Women's trap: 1. Seema Tomar (AMU) 56, 2. Zoya Mehta (Pun) 55, 3. Shagun Chowdhary (Raj) 51.

Women's 10m air pistol: 1. Shweta Chaudhry (IA) 381, 2. Sarvesh Tomar (Infantry Kids) 379, 3. Saroja Kumari (AMU) 378. Team: 1. IA (Annu Raj Singh, Shweta Chaudhry, Sonal Ramendra) 1116, 2. Delhi (Suvidha Kitchloo, Ankita Chaudhry, Balesh Devi) 1081.

Women's 50m rifle three position: 1. DVS Lakshmipriya (AMU) 575, 2. Kuheli Gangulee (CISF) 575, 3. Deepali Deshpande (RSPB) 574.
