KOLLAM, JAN. 9. The Kollam region Vocational Higher Secondary Schools Youth Festival will be held at the Government Model Boys VHSS here on January 11 and 12. The region comprises 93 VHSS schools in Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam districts. At a press conference here on Saturday, the Assistant Director of Vocational Higher Secondary Education, E. Latheefa, said that over 1,500 students would be competing in 62 events to be held in five different venues. The Kollam Mayor, Sabita Beegum, will inaugurate the festival. In view of the tsunami disaster, which hit the district on December 26, the traditional cultural procession, held in connection with the commencement of the festival, will not be held, Ms. Latheefa said. The valedictory function in the evening on January 12 will be inaugurated by the Minister for Water Resources, Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan, at a function to be presided over by the Kollam MP, P. Rajendran. Ms. Latheefa said that all arrangements for the accommodation of the participants have been made.
