COLOMBO, JAN. 9. The state-run Sri Lankan Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) has retracted a report by it on Saturday which said the leader of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), V. Prabakaran, and his intelligence wing leader were either killed or washed away in the tsunami, media reports said here today. According to official sources, while the SLBC's news broadcast did not carry the news report, a talk show hosted by the station to discuss contents in daily newspapers referred to a report in The Island , known for its hardline and anti-LTTE position. The Sunday Times and the AFP news agency today reported that the SLBC had retracted its report, but gave no reasons. The Sunday Times described the SLBC story as a "dead rope" by the state broadcaster.
