CHAMARAJANAGAR, JAN. 9. The Kannada Chaluvali Vatal Paksha President, Vatal Nagaraj, has urged the State Government to establish a rural drinking water supply authority. Speaking after a "buffalo procession" at Uthavalli village in Chamarajanagar taluk today, Mr. Nagaraj said proper water supply in rural areas can be ensured if an authority is set up. He will organise similar processions throughout the State to pressure the Government to take steps to ease the drinking water shortage in rural areas. Mr. Nagaraj urged the Government to include a proposal to establish an authority in the Governor's speech. He appealed to it to earmark Rs. 25 crores in the Budget for drinking water supply in rural areas of Chamarajanagar district. He demanded that the Government announce Chamarajanagar taluk as drought-hit. He said that his party will organise a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office here urging the Government to announce a development package for the district.
