BJP flays move to inspect gold crown
By Our Staff Reporter
GURUVAYUR,
JAN. 9.
The BJP national secretary, L. Ganesan, has said that Income Tax authorities should not be allowed to inspect the gold crown offered to the Guruvayur Sreekrishna Temple by the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister, J. Jayalalithaa on July 2, 2001.
Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Ganesan said that allowing the officials to check temple properties was unwarranted and would set a dangerous precedent.
He claimed the BJP had not politicised the Kanchi Sankaracharya issue. "We want to ensure that religious leaders are not persecuted in this country.''
