CHENNAI, JAN. 9. As part of Road Safety Week, police have installed first-aid boxes at 100 traffic signals in various parts of the city. The Police Commissioner, R. Medicines to treat wounds, blood stoppers, disposable gloves, bandages, mouth-to-mouth respiration masks, scissors, reflecting tapes, eye wash, ice packs, forceps and safety pins are some of the items kept in the box. It also has a card with instructions on how to use them, police officials said. Approved by the World Health Organisation, the boxes will be maintained by a private textile mill. Every week, the officials or employees of the mill will replace the used material and medicines. Adyar bridge signal, Anna Nagar Roundtana, Chamiers Road, Central Station, Chetput, Chola Hotel, Doveton bridge, Ega, near Egmore railway station, Ekkaduthangal, G.N. Mr. Nataraj also launched a mobile first-aid training programme. Traffic policemen manning important intersections would be trained on how to use the kit during emergencies. The police also propose to educate the shopkeepers and autorickshaw drivers in these areas on using the box. Mr. Nataraj flagged off two buses equipped with traffic-related gadgets such as breath analyser, speed radar guns and pamphlets on road safety rules and regulations. The buses will go around the city to educate the people on road safety. Members of the Citizen for Safe Roads in the buses will interact with the people to spread awareness.
