Letters to the Editor
Sir, The tsunami attack has highlighted the plight of the fisherfolk who have to necessarily live by the sea. Even in normal times, they toil hard for a living. The Governments at the Centre and the States should take proper steps to alleviate their poverty. Providing them an alternative means of livelihood can be considered.
N.T. Rajan,
Sir, Whenever a tragedy occurs, be it the Bhopal gas disaster, the Gujarat pogrom or the tsunami, the marginalised sections are the most affected. Our leaders unfortunately do not attach so much importance to equal distribution of resources, opportunities, etc., as to raising the national income. If horizontal development is achieved, unexpected calamities will cause least disruption.
Durai Gnanasekaran,
