SEBI to focus on debt market development
MUMBAI,
JAN. 10.
Expressing concern over the low level of growth in the debt market, the Securities and Exchange Board of India today said it would focus on developing this segment of the capital market in the current and next year to impart depth.
Both segments, equity and debt, are crucial for development of entire markets and growth of debt segment was an area of focus for the market regulator, SEBI Chairman, G. N. Bajpai, said addressing a conference `Emerging Securities market' organised in association with ICFAI (Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India) here. The SEBI would address the issues relating to debt market for this and next year, he added.
Referring to challenges for the growth of the market, Mr. Bajpai said market integrity, risk management and corporate governance were crucial for attracting investments.
