LUCKNOW, JAN. 10. A strong 70,000 employees including engineers of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL) today went on an indefinite strike demanding immediate suspension of the Mulayam Singh Yadav's government. The work boycott started in the entire State this morning with the employees resorting to demonstration in front of their offices. This is the second such protest by the power employees after a 72-hour strike over the same issue in December, last. However, a delegation of the power employees union is set to meet the Chief Minister here this afternoon to settle the issue. The U.P. Power Employees Union joint committee convernor, Shailendra Dubey, said the strike would continue till the demands were met which included immediate decision by the government to stop the privatisation process of Anpara C generation unit and of the five distribution companies, recruitment to 35,000 vacant posts in the power sector, ex-gratia payment to the employees and making a common cadre for all the generation, transmission and distribution companies of the UPPCL.
