Uttaranchal
By Our Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN, JAN. 10. The Uttaranchal Assembly session began today with the Governor, Sudershan Agarwal, calling for rapid preparation and implementation of a 10-year infrastructure development plan to put the State on the path of development. Underlining the need to reach basic services to the remotest villages, the Governor wanted the Government to lay special emphasis on construction of roads, education, health and technical training centres so that everyone had access to the vast opportunities available in the local as well as global economy. To tap the massive potential in the information technology sector, the Government was facilitating the establishment of four world-class training and business promotion centres in the State. Mr Agarwal hoped more private investments would come in for infrastructure development. He called upon the people to contribute towards the efforts being made for the relief of tsunami victims. Since Uttaranchal is also located in a high seismic risk area, the officials as well as the public should take extra care while building new structures.
