CHANDIGARH, JAN.10. Ten candidates belonging to different parties and an Independent filed nomination papers for the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections on the first day today of filing of nominations. According to official sources, six candidates belong to the Ekta Shakti Party, two represent the Indian National Congress (INC) while one is from the BJP. An official spokesman of the State Election Department said that the Returning Officers issued the notices required under Section 31 of the Representation of People Act 1951 inviting nominations of candidates and specifying the places where nomination papers will be received. The election process formally got under way after the Governor, A.R.Kidwai, issued a notification today. Polling in Haryana will take place on February 3 for the 90 seats. The last date for filing nominations is January 17 and the scrutiny will take place the next day. The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is January 20 and counting of votes will be taken up on February 27.
