TIRUPATI, JAN. 10. The two-day meet of the Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) began here on Monday. The standing committee (technical and stores) of ASRTU, the apex body of all the State road transport corporations in the country headquartered at New Delhi, is meeting to discuss and analyse recent trends, technical improvements and other market-oriented developments to be shared among its members and implemented by the respective corporations. The APSRTC Executive Director (Engineering), M.V. Nagavender Rao, who is also the chairman of the panel, presided over the meet, in which 18 members are taking part. P. S. Shrimali, Director (Technical) of ASRTU, and A. S. Lakra, Director of Central Institute of Road Transport, Pune, are also members.
Latest models of chassis
Representatives of vehicle manufacturers like Ashok Leyland, Tata Motors and Eicher Motors presented their latest models of chassis and buses and explained the modifications carried out in the latest variants. Mr. Rao said the manufacturers should design chassis keeping vehicular safety, fuel efficiency and passenger comfort in mind. The meet also discussed the vehicle replacement policies adopted in various transport corporations and the procedures followed in testing of various material and spares for ensuring quality of supplies.
Technical presentation
During the two-day meet, MICO would be giving a technical presentation on fuel injection equipment and changes effected in chassis designed as per Bharat Stage I and II (pollution norms), while Unipatch Rubber gave an update on the latest developments in vulcanizing materials used in retreading and repair of tyres. Officials from transport undertakings of Jammu & Kashmir, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtrra, Himachal Pradesh, West Bengal and Haryana and APSRTC executive director, Y. Vijay Kumar, attended the meet, while S. Dharma Reddy, Regional Manager, Tirupati, coordinated.
