Zoravar, Amardeep on target

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JAN. 10. Following up on a stupendous 75/75 on Sunday, Zoravar Singh Sandhu completed Monday's men's trap event with 48/50 in the Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi memorial master shooting championships at the SAAP range.

The Delhi-based Zoravar equalled a career best 145 out of 150 in more trying circumstances on Monday. The new ISSF rules that came into effect on New Year's day, allowed only one shot at the clay bird darting away from the marksman at speeds ranging between 110 and 115 miles per hour in a deviation from the past when two were fired.

Zoravar attributed his win to the good work of his team that comprised P.S. Sodhi, Dr. Simi Jain, his personal coach and yoga instructor Sukhi Singh.

Mansher third

The competition witnessed the relegation of the event's elder statesman, Olympian and Arjuna Awardee Mansher Singh to third place.

Singh lost out to Birendeep Sodhi after the duo was tied on 137.

For the seasoned Mansher, the shift from a Perazzi weapon to a Beretta hadn't been smooth. Nor had the morning rounds done his morale much good.

Blighted by a backache, Amardeep Singh Rai didn't shoot as well as on Sunday, but separated himself from the nearest rival by at least two targets in the men's skeet competition. The windy conditions affected his scoring too.

Sushil Ghaley of the Army Marksmanship Unit (AMU) claimed the 50 metre three position gold.

The Darjeeling-born Havaldhar with 2/1 Gorkha Rifles acknowledged the support of his coaches subedars Charan Singh and Bharath Singh and the AMU's Commanding Officer Col. I.J. Peoples.
