Maoists stand exposed, says SP

ONGOLE, JAN. 10. The Superintendent of Police, Mahesh Chandra Ladda, has said that the documents recovered from the place of encounter in Prakasam district on Saturday showed that the CPI (Maoist) was not interested in peace and planned to use peace talks period only to mobilise its resources, plan strategies and strengthen itself further.

The documents stated that the Congress had initiated peace talks to get over its political and economic problems temporarily. The Government, at the same time, was afraid that the Maoists would use the peace period to strengthen themselves.

Mr. Mahesh Chandra, at a press conference here today, released several of the documents seized from the place of encounter where the women naxalite, Latakka, was killed and another naxalite, Vijay, was nabbed while 18 others escaped. The documents related to Nallamala forest division committee, which had eight dalams operating in Prakasam and Kurnool districts.

Recruitment

The platoon party committee resolved on January 3 to recruit more people, mobilise donations, organise the Rythu Coolie Sangham. It identified places for arms dumping and planting claymore mines and named the targets. It had recruited 21 persons so far. Yet another document revealed preparations made by the Maoists who had attacked the police stations at Badvel, Pedaraveedu and 11th Cuddapah Battalion and showed detailed maps of these places.

List of donors

In yet another document the party issued a stern warning to Nallamala East Area Committee secretary, Sagar, for falling in love with a fresh recruit and promising to marry her after divorcing his first wife, Latakka, following the procedure laid down by the party.

In another document recovered by the police, the naxalites gave a detailed list of donations collected from various people. The donors included power plant Rs. 8 lakhs, Linga Reddy, TDP candidate for Khammam Assembly seat, Rs. 5 lakhs, Manam Venkata Reddy, Rs. 80,000, beedi leaf contractors Rs. 60,000, Forest Department Rs. 50,000, lorry owners of Giddalur Rs. 20,000 and Dornala mandal president, Rs. 5,000.

Interestingly, one person, code named `P' from Markhapur donated Rs. 17 lakhs. In another document gave the list of weapons in its possession.
