EC team submits report on code violation in Haryana

NEW DELHI, JAN. 10. An Election Commission team, which probed the alleged violation of model code of conduct by Abhay Chautala, son of the Haryana Chief Minister, Om Prakash Chautala, today submitted its report even as some senior State Government officials appeared before the Commission for issuing two tender notices.

Accusing Mr. Abhay Chautala of trying to bribe voters by promising government jobs in violation of the code, the EC last week issued a show cause notice to him as well as the ruling Indian National Lok Dal seeking an explanation why action should not be taken against the party. The EC also despatched a two-member team to Chandigarh.

Taking serious note of two tender notices, one by the Public Works Department and the other by the Irrigation Department for undertaking various construction works in Hissar and Sirsa violating the model code, the EC directed the Chief Secretary to instruct Secretaries, Chief Engineers and the Executive Engineers to appear before it.
