CHENNAI, JAN.10. At a rare meeting of political rivals, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam deputy general secretary, M. K. Stalin, today handed over a cheque for Rs. 21 lakhs, on behalf of the party president, M. Karunanidhi, to the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, towards the Chief Minister's Public Relief Fund for tsunami victims. Ms. Jayalalithaa asked him to convey her thanks toMr. Karunanidhi. In a letter Mr. Stalin handed over to her at the Secretariat here, Mr. Karunanidhi said he was donating his remuneration for writing the screenplays of `Kannamma' and `Mannin Maindan.' This was in addition to his earlier contributions for tsunami relief. The DMK headquarters, in a release, said the president had contributed Rs.1 crore to the Prime Minister's Public Relief Fund through the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi. He also handed over Rs. 20 lakhs collected by the party to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh. The contributions were to express Mr. Karunanidhi's solidarity with the Centre, the State Government and voluntary agencies, which were carrying out relief and rehabilitation works, the release said.
