NEW DELHI, JAN. 10. Five people, who had allegedly murdered the driver and the cleaner of a truck and sped away with 198 Sony television sets loaded in a vehicle at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh in October last, were arrested from near Filmistan cinema by the Operation Cell of the North Delhi police on January 2. A stolen car and 92 television sets have been recovered. Constable Suresh of the Operation Cell received a tip-off that some criminals who had robbed a truck transporting television sets from Mumbai to Delhi after killing its driver and cleaner, would come to the Inter-State Bus Terminus (ISBT) from Karol Bagh in a stolen Opel Astra car. Subsequently, a trap was laid and the vehicle intercepted at DCM Chowk near Filmistan cinema. The occupants, Amit Tyagi, Promod Tyagi, Satish Kasana, Lokesh Kumar and Braham Prakash, were detained after the vehicle was found stolen from Mandir Marg. While two country-made firearms and four live cartridges were recovered from their possession, the police also found two of the stolen televisions in the vehicle. During interrogation, the accused confessed to their involvement in the Mathura case, in which they had killed Swaroop Singh and Kishan. Satish disclosed that he worked at a toll tax barrier on the Uttar Pradesh-Rajasthan border in Agra and knew the truck driver, Swaroop, and cleaner, Kishan, as they passed by that route regularly. In the intervening night of October 24 and 25, he and his accomplices took lift in the truck and upon reaching Mathura asked Swaroop to stop at an isolated place saying they wanted to relieve themselves. The accused then shot the driver and the cleaner, strangled them to ensure that they were dead, disposed of their bodies at Raya on Mathura-Aligarh Road and took the truck to Dadri. They handed over the truck to Lokesh who promised them sizable sum after disposing of the television sets. He along with Braham Prakash allegedly sold several television sets.
