Misty morning, cloudy day

NEW DELHI JAN. 10. The weatherman has forecast a misty morning for the Capital on Tuesday. The sky is expected to be clear, but it might become cloudy towards the afternoon or evening, he warned. The minimum temperature will hover around 7 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Monday were 21 degrees Celsius and 7.5 degrees Celsius respectively. At Palam, the maximum and minimum temperatures recorded were 20.8 degrees Celsius and 8.1 degrees Celsius respectively.

As for the humidity, Safdarjung and Palam recorded a maximum of 92 and 97 per cent respectively while the minimum humidity at the two places was 35 per cent and 45 per cent respectively.

Man succumbs to stab injuries

NEW DELHI JAN. 10. A 30-year-old man, who was stabbed by two miscreants when he tried to stop them from taking away a bag they had snatched from someone at Preet Vihar in East Delhi on Sunday, succumbed to his injuries at GTB Hospital early this morning.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. when some unknown persons got into a fight with Suresh, who had a tea-stall, on some pretext and then stabbed him. He was rushed to GTB Hospital where he was declared dead today. The police have registered a murder case and are trying to identify the assailants.

Held while planning robbery

NEW DELHI JAN. 10. Five alleged criminals, who were planning to commit a robbery, were arrested from a park at Kalkaji in South Delhi on January 7. A country-made pistol and a live cartridge were seized from them.

The accused were identified as Rakesh, Tilak Raj, Ashok, Suresh and Dashrath. During interrogation, Tilak Raj revealed that he and his accomplices were mainly into picking pockets in buses. Further investigations are on.

Prostitution racket busted

New Delhi Jan 10 . Police today claimed to have busted a prostitution racket being operated from an East Delhi locality and arrested three women in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, a decoy customer was sent to the Preet Vihar address where he struck a deal with the landlady who produced two women aged 24 and 38, police said. As soon as the money changed hands, police raided the house and arrested the trio.

Bomb hoax call

New Delhi Jan 10 . A telephone call claiming that a bomb had been placed in Karkardooma court premises in north Delhi today sent police into a tizzy but it turned out to be a hoax. Police received a call from a public call outlet (PCO) this morning informing about the bomb, police sources said. Bomb disposal and police teams were immediately rushed to the spot but after hours of search, the call was declared a hoax, they said.

Efforts were on to trace the caller, the sources added.

LPG filling gang busted

New Delhi Jan 10 . The city police today claimed to have busted an illegal LPG filling gang with the arrest of three people in South-West Delhi. More than 100 cylinders were recovered from them and a case under the Explosive Substances Act was registered against them with the Najafgarh police station, a statement said.

The trio used to transfer gas from domestic gas cylinder into commercial cylinders endangering lives and property of the general public, and sold these for Rs 600 each.
