This Day That Age
General Mohan Singh, Chairman of the All-India Forward Bloc, met Prime Minister Nehru in New Delhi on January 10 and apprised him of the decision of his party to merge with the Congress. Later, he saw the Congress President, Mr. U.N. Dhebar and discussed with him the details of the merger. Mr. Nehru greatly appreciated the decision of the Forward Bloc and assured General Mohan Singh that they were most welcome to rejoin the Congress. The Congress, he said, would welcome to its fold all those who were prepared to work for the prosperity and well-being of the country by subordinating individual interests to the larger interests of the country. There was no place in the Congress, Mr. Nehru said, for self-seekers. The Congress motto throughout its chequered history had been service of the nation and for those who subscribed to this motto, the doors of this organisation were always open. The Congress would not allow wrong and undesirable elements to enter it and exploit its fair name for their personal ends.
