BELGAUM, JAN. 11. The Tyagaveer Sirsangi Lingaraj Memorial Lecture was organised here on Monday by Lingaraj College to mark the Founder's Day of K.L.E. Society. Shivanand Jamdar, who was felicitated on the occasion, delivered the lecture on "Impact of globalisation on cultural values." Ko. Channabasappa, retired judge and writer, presided over the occasion.
Liberalisation
Mr. Jamdar focussed on liberalisation and privatisation of the economy and its impact on cultural values. He observed that culture has its roots in the economic order. Under the new economic world order, even cultural values are being commercialised. This has led to isolation of the individual from society, which has its own consequences, he added. For instance, yoga, meditation and spirituality are being sold like a commercial product, he pointed out.
