VISAKHAPATNAM, JAN. 11. Central Zone, after conceding the first-innings lead, turned the tables on South Zone to win the round-robin league match of the ACA under-22 inter-zone tournament at Kakinada on Tuesday, according to a report received here. Off-spinner T. Koteswara Rao broke the back of South second innings with a five-wicket haul while left-arm spinner, V.V.V. Appa Rao, dropped from the Andhra team for the Subbaiah Pillai Trophy, claimed four wickets to bowl out South as it was chasing a victory target of 197 runs on the final day. Except M. Suresh (49, 4x5) and Mahendra Reddy (29, 4x5), who scored a half-century in the first innings, other South batsmen succumbed to the spin duo. Earlier, Central, resuming at 183 for six, was all out for 251. Overnight batsman D. Satish scored 40 runs (4x8) and Appa Rao slammed a quick-fire 31 (6x2, 4x3). Elezer, who claimed five wickets for South in the first innings finished with four in the second essay while Khaza and Suresh chipped in with two wickets each.
Central, which conceded first innings lead to North in its first match, finished with four points in the three-team tournament. South takes on North in the one-day and three-day matches.
The scores: Central Zone 229 and 251 in 56.3 overs (Lenin 78, D. Satish 40, Elezer four for 62) bt South Zone 284 and 131 in 30.5 overs (M. Suresh 49, T. Koteswara Rao five for 17, V.V.V. Appa Rao four for 36).
