LUCKNOW, JAN. 11. The toll in the current cold wave spell in Uttar Pradesh reached 72 today with the death of two persons including a woman. Reports said Ram Komal and Bechni Devi of Siddharthnagar district in the State died last night due to cold. According to the Met office, most places in U.P. would remain cloudy with sporadic downpour. Meanwhile, the day temperature registered an increase. The State Capital witnessed slight rainfall in the early hours today. Bareilly recorded the minimum temperature of nine degrees Celsius in the State. Shimla: The cold wave tightened its grip in Himachal Pradesh following mild to moderate intermittent snowfall in higher areas during the past 24 hours. A cold wave swept the tribal districts of Lahaul-Spiti and Kinnaur with the mercury hovering around minus 15 to 25 degrees Celsius in the tribal belt. All natural water sources like ponds and springs, including Chandertal and Surajtal lakes, are frozen. Tourist resorts of Wildflower hall, Kufri and Narkanda in Shimla district and Manali in Kullu district also received mild snowfall last evening. The 13,050-feet Rohtang pass received moderate snowfall last night, a report from Koksar said. People in Kangra and Kullu valleys also remained in the grip of a cold wave. The Capital town of Shimla and its adjoining areas reeled under the cold wave with the town recording minimum temperature of 1.5 degree Celsius. Bhuntar in Kullu district recorded a minimum temperature of 0.6 degree while Sundernagar recorded 2 degrees, met office said here today. The bright and sunny weather gave some relief to the local residents.
