Uttaranchal
By Our Staff Correspondent
DEHRA DUN, JAN. 11. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha and Bharatiya Janata Party leaders today accused the Narain Dutt Tiwari Government of following an anti-poor and anti-youths policy in the State. The police used tear gas and water cannons as some of the activists tried to cross the barrier and rush towards the Vidhan Sabha. Addressing the Garjana Rally near the Vidhan Sabha, the BJYM State president, Pushkar Singh Dhami, wanted the Government to issue a white paper on all the recruitments done in various departments since it assumed power. "The Congress has conveniently forgotten its election promise of providing two lakh jobs per year. The officials and Ministers are indulging in high level corruption in the recruitments as is evident by the suspension of an Additional Director General of Police in the famous sub-inspectors recruitment scam that came to light after the Naini Tal High Court ordered a probe and the suspension of the then District Magistrate of Pauri for irregularities in the recruitment of patwaris. The Congress Government is hand-in-glove with the land mafia and also handing over prime forestland to big industrial houses of other States in the name of eco-tourism. Perhaps the Lok Ayukt will take notice of the scams and bring the big culprits to book'', he said. The former Chief Minister and State BJP president, Bhagat Singh Koshiary, urged the people to gear up to oust the Congress regime in the next Assembly elections. "This Government makes only big populist statements describing Uttaranchal as the world destination in many fields. In fact Uttaranchal has become a known destination of corruption by surpassing Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in this field'', he said. Earlier, the Uttarakhand Mahila Manch activists, also planning to gherao the Vidhan Sabha, were stopped at Dharampur Chowk where they burnt the Government's effigy demanding the early declaration of Gairsen as the permanent Capital of the State. In the morning, the House was adjourned for the day after paying homage to Vipin Tripathi, the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal MLA who passed away recently.
