NEW DELHI, JAN. 11. About 45 tons of relief material collected by the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party in aid of the tsunami victims was despatched to the affected areas by rail today. The Delhi Pradesh BJP president, Harsh Vardhan, flagged off the relief material that included rice, pulses, grams, flour, jaggery, confectionary, sugar, tea, biscuits, essential medicine, tonics and clothes for children, saris, wrappers, lungis, T-shirts, school bags, utensils, polythene sheets, shoes, sandals, night shelters, candles and match boxes -- which have been donated by not only the office-bearers and workers of the Delhi Pradesh BJP but also by Delhiites. On the occasion, Dr. Vardhan announced the third lot of the relief material would be despatched soon to the affected areas of Southern India. "Through the BJP Calamity Relief Fund of Rs.18 lakhs has already been sent to the tsunami-affected people. Ten trucks of relief material have been distributed among the needy. Relief material and money received as donation is being collected for the third lot," added Dr. Vardhan.
